You all are wonderful! Thanks so much for your e-mails and comments here! So many of you know Brian so well and know that he adores his beer...I meant to say "adore". He could live the rest of his life and never have another Miller Lite or Budweiser but it's the good stuff that matters most to him...the mircobrew, unique, international or local beers that challenge him and make him want to learn more about their history, their origins, and productions, the story of their beginning, and everything in between that he could not live without.
And he won't have to.
He can drink. He can drink socially by having one or two every once in awhile or even a night here or there where much more is consumed. That's fine. Remember, he's working on making his liver better and when it is, he will live a very normal life.
He just needs to have balance. He probably won't be having any binge drinking nights with huge amounts of fried food anytime soon. if he does- he'll pay for it with an attack. If he choses to drink he needs to watch what he is eating. if he's eating bad, he needs to be aware of what he's drinking. He needs to be sure to make good choices more often than bad ones.
Remember that beer Brian bought at his favorite BEER store in the whole world literally minutes before we first went to University of Iowa Medical Center? He finally broke into the two six-packs he was saving and it was great! He shared it with dear friends, which made it even better!
So go ahead, buy him a beer the next time you see him...he'll gladly accept!

I guess this means that I'm only buying the good stuff when Brian is around.
Of course! I guess that just means more for me! ;) I'm fine with that!
