Well, when Brian's mom and grandma left this morning from a nice overnight visit, Grandma noticed her purse was wet.
"Where was it grandma?"
" Just on the floor in the guest room."
" OH SHIT!!!!"
after some investigating and waiting until they left as I wasn't sure I could handle any more as I've been packing for this weekend and cleaning and everything- I discovered that there was moisture along the whole North wall of the guest bedroom in the basement and in some places it was sloshy. I looked at the back of the filing cabinet we use as a night stand and it had mold. Alng the side, water damage, in the bottom file, more mold.
I called Bri, then called our contractor friend to ask advice...is it the shower leaking, the egress window? Perhaps our $7,000 waterproofing system we put in after our last flood that we lost everything in? Dear God, don't let there be lots of damage...
With advice from Jamey, Bri ran home from work ( he'll only be able to do that for anotehr 10 days) and we pulled back the carpet together. Significant saturation through 2-3 feet of the carpet, the padding, etc. The walls were dry but the concrete below was NOT. It was not the shower.
So, we are at a pause...we are using fans and the dehumidifyer for now and we will wait. We are starting with the waterproofing system. It might not be a fault of the system however no matter what, we were assured that no moisture would keep through the walls, the system would catch it, channel it and get it away from the house. We shall see.
Two pics...you can see the saturation just below that window. The white stuff is the pad glue. We'll keep you updated...
