He had a pretty good week last week and a really great weekend last weekend, so good we were asking ourselves if perhaps it was over and we could simply call it a 2 month nightmare.
This past Monday he had a bad day and it's gotten worse as the week has progressed, culminating last night with attack after attack- so bad at times he again wondered if he would need to go to the hospital. He got his bloodwork back and his liver enzymes were normal, therefore we can hope that the elavation was simply due to his ERCP. We don't know anything about the spleen...Carle Radiolgy finally told us late this week that they won't look at the films of another hospital for liability reasons. With the info from the blood work however, Brian's GI isn't concerned about the spleen or liver right now. As you may have read, he has an appointment at Barnes in St. Louis but not til December and there is no way we can wait that long.
Carle has pretty much said we are at the end of our road with them so Brian began talking to my cousin, Becky who has had very similiar pains and ended up having surgery at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City. HEr Gi Specialist is well known in the GI world and covers upper biliary conditions ( not to mention UI is one of the few hospitals in the midwest that has the machines and technology to evaluate upper biliary conditions). Brian got cleared to go to Iowa from our insurance, a refferal from Carle and is waiting to be scheduled. He talked to the Iowa doctor's receptionist and they hope to fit him in in the next few weeks. Its been so tough as the good days have been great and the bad have been pretty bad. Brian's learning to "fake" it really well so we can still try to have some sort of normalcy for ourselves and our kids. Keep praying for Brian as we go through yet again, another painful medical mystery.
Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers.
