A New Play Structure!
We decided in late February that we wanted to save for a new play structure for our backyard. We are currently going through Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and decided to use one of his techniques about showing kids how to raise money and save money so we bought a big glass jar and sat down and talked to the kids about the goal and asked if they wanted to participate in saving money. They were so excited so we all decided that for the next few months we would save every penny we found, every dollar we got for all 4 of our birthdays and any extra money we got along the way and add it to the jar and SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. The goal was to buy it in June and have it up for summer but when the funds weren't very close at the end of May, we again sat the kids down and talked about the possibility of taking some of our saved money and making updates and remodeling our current one until we had enough money for a new one. They agreed. And then our garage sale last weekend was awesome and we were able to raise enough money to buy the new play structure. So, while the kids were at their grandparents, Brian and I shopped and shopped and shopped. After endless searches on the internet, some trips around town, and scaling the shelving unit at Menards to climb up and evaluate this one....we decided this was the one!
While the new one and the old one don't look too different, the new one is much taller, has more surface area, a taller slide, a climbing wall, more swings, and the opportunity to grow or add elements as the kids grow and earn the money to make the changes. We needed something new that would grow with our kids for the next 5 years!
So, we began deconstructing the old one
The kids helped with absolutely everything as we wanted to be sure they felt part of this process and assumed some ownership in this play structure. We scooped all the old sand out

A Mansion Wedding
My girlfriend from college was married today and we were particularly excited about this wedding as the reception was at Allerton, the Masion and estate that Brian worked at for almost 5 years as a chef and Conference Manager. Allerton is Magestic and truly amazing and holds a special place for both of us yet neither of us had ever been to a wedding there and we were excited to attend...and Brian, after setting up and organizing hundreds, was happy to sit and enjoy and not work!
The wedding was beautiful...this couple came to our wedding 7 years ago together so it was fun to see them at theirs!
Brooke was beautiful and they looked so happy!
The cocktail hour was on the veranda of the mansion, looking out at the reflection pond. It was stunning!
And the dinner was inside a HUGE tent on the bowling lawn

Grandparents Week!
We were without kids this entire week as they went to Brian's parent's house for Grandparents Week. We met Bob and Chris at the Children's Museum in Normal where Mara loved brushing her teeth
and Nana's!
And Al loved exploring with Grandpa
We love this Museum too
Al and Daddy also challenged Nana to a game of checkers!
Once the kids were on their way to Galesburg, we headed 16 miles out of town to the Mackinaw Valley Winery. It was amazing. You'd never know you were just outside B-N!
And the facility was awesome- seating for hundreds, tons of wine, amazing views, a beautiful day!
Brian and I sat in the Gazebo in the middle of the late sharing a bottle of wine, cheese and crackers, and just being together without the babies!
It was heaven!
And while I wish I could share more pics of the week without the kids, I can't- we didn't take any ( I know, shocking for me). We did however go see one movie (Hangover 2), rent 4 movies that we loved ( Due Date, Conviction, No Strings Attached, True Grit), went shopping together, went out to eat numerous times, ran together in the morning, slept in,stayed up late, drank lots of beer, talked, went to the pool and stayed on the adult side, and relaxed! It was amazing!!!!

The MOTHER of all Garage Sales
Today was the neighborhood garagesale and it was great! We had a blast setting up last night with the neighbors while the adults drank and the kids played.
We put it all out this morning and realized we have a TON of CRAP!!!!
it was everywhere...big little, and every other size. Good thing it was a great weather day.
We had the whole carport filled, both side of the driveway, the entire front yard, and a few things at our neighbors.

Amara's TeaParty at Grammy's!
Today was Amara's Tea Party at Grammy's House for her birthday gift. She was SO excited about it. She has been talking about it all week. She wanted to wear her fancy Easter dress and high heel shoes and gloves and purse. Grammy let her pick ONE girl to share the party with and she chose her favorite person in the whole world....not me....her cousin Veronica! PLUS, she got to bring her Bitty Baby ( all dressed up too)
Grammy outdid herself with the table,
highlighting her sweet little teapot and set.
Everyone, even Bitty Baby, had their own placecard, goblet, plate, cup, and flowers.
Could these two be any sweeter.

Grammy's Girls!
You can just see the glow on all three of their faces- they loved it!
Mara carefully scooped water out of her goblet.
Look at Mara intensly watching Grammy serve her the beverage.
Mara and Bitty Baby seem to be conversing
Papa got to stay at the party and take all these pics for me ( thanks Papa) but Al and I went to church to clean while they had their teaparty. Then we joined in the fun for lunch and freeplay before heading home,
What an incredible activity and a beautiful memory of her 3rd birthday !

Alaric...First Day and Last Day of School
Alaric's Last Day of School! Bye Bye Preschool...Hello Kindergarten!
Today was Alaric's last day of school! What a tremendous year it has been. Sending him to Small Wonders was the best decision we could have made for him and he had so much FUN this year learning a ton and doing some creative projects, meeting new friends, and getting to be at his elementary school too!
We made coffee filter flowers together Tuesday night for end of the year gifts. Alaric made a card for his teachers that said, "Thanks for helping me Bloom"
They turned out beautifully and everyone who recieved them loved them!
Alaric was so excited after school and with tradition, we headed to McDonalds for icecream and tons of playtime!
